Sub-titled The sunset of the Italian Empire from British occupation in 1941 to Democracy in 1945 this volume replaces the earlier published in 2001 which was quickly sold out, and has been expanded to include many useful new features, one of which being short biographies on a number of Italian experts together with their photographs and addresses.
This catalogue covers the very interesting wartime period of Italian philatelic history, encompassing allied invasion issues and those of the Socialist Republic, accompanied by most useful dated maps showing the allied advance northwards and the stamps that were issued with their myriad overprints and consequent varieties. It is in the listing of varieties not found in other catalogues that gives this catalogue its strength.
Other chapters deal with the Lieutenancy period; fiscals, locals, issues for Trieste A & B; various National Liberation Committees; the Polish Corps; occupations of Libia; Eritrea, & Fezzan. Where applicable, postal stationery issued at this time is also listed, whilst stamps are priced for mint & used and also on cover. There are one or two very useful listings such as the Posta Militare numbers and the 361 different postmarks for Trieste A.Very well produced and clearly laid out, this is a catalogue that will appeal to the collector and non-collector alike and its cost price can be quickly recouped with a little assiduous searching at local fairs.
